Ireland's Top Science Trial School

Over the past few years Castleknock Community College has become Ireland's top school in trials to represent the country in International Science Competitions.

In 2004 Aoife Ni Mhaoileoin won the gold medal in the national trial to select teams for the European Union Science Tests. Aoife then travelled to Holland where she won a silver medal with the Irish team.

In 2005 Martina Fezrakmanova followed in Aoife's footsteps winning silver in the national trials before winning silver at the Europeans, which were held in Galway.

This year Martina won a bronze medal in the trials to represent Ireland at the World Physics Olympiad while Sinead Ni Riada won a silver medal in the physics trials.

Both girls are now on panels to travel to represent the country in World Tests, which will take place during the summer. We wish them both well.

Debating

Debating has flourished in Castleknock Community College over recent years. Most recently Stephen Hopkins and David McGowan became champions of the prestigious Leinster Schools Debating Competition. Other successful speakers over recent years have included Aoife Ní Mhaoileoin, Maria Stacey, Sinéad Ní Riada, Peter Murphy, Jack Kiernan and Niamh Ní Mhaoileoin. They have enjoyed success in the Leinster Schools, Aoife Begley and Junior Debating Competitions.

This year is also the inaugural year of the college's first official debating society which meets weekly and is currently running an internal junior debating league
