Little Lambs Primary School in Chennai
Little Lambs primary school is in a suburb of Chennai (formerly
Madras), in South India. The people of Perambur live in a
type of poverty that does not exist in Ireland. A good education
provides the only way out of poverty but the average Indian
primary school has sixty to seventy children in a class, so
there is little individual attention and those with learning
difficulties do not progress at all. Many children therefore
drop out of school at a young age. Little Lambs School was
established by Maria Gislen, a Swedish woman, to provide small
classes and cater for these children. Maria is currently building
a school and needs money for building and equipment. EUR2
is enough money to buy school uniforms for two students, so
the money raised will go a long way in providing the children
of Peramabur with a decent education.
