Open Afternoon/Evening: This important event takes place this Wednesday 8th February

Details as follows-

  • Prospective students and parents/guardians will visit school from 2.30pm to 5.30pm
  • Tour of school facilities will also be available from 7pm to 8pm for parents/guardians only
  • Information session for parents/guardians only will be held in gym from 8pm to 9pm

Second Year Parent/Teacher Meeting: Mr O’ Gallchobhair will host meeting for parents/guardians of students in Block B tomorrow Tuesday from 4.15pm to 6.15pm. As usual classes will finish at 3.30pm.

LCA: Well done to all involved with LCA students in preparing them for last week’s interviews. The visiting examiners were very impressed with the standard & the manner in which all students presented themselves for interview.

Starsearch 2012: Congratulations to Helen, Vickie & TY students on another magnificent production last Thursday & Friday. The many months of preparation & commitment is very much appreciated in providing our students with another platform to showcase their talent. Many thanks to all staff for their patience and co-operation in facilitating rehearsals earlier in the week and for assisting with supervision on both nights. The vital support & assistance of James, Patrick, Liam, Ciaran and other ancillary staff with the organisation of the concerts is also very much appreciated. Well done to all involved. For the record, Starsearch 2012 concluded with the following results-

Sticks & Stones Workshop: Thank you to all staff for their work with the "Sticks & Stones" workshops with first year classes last week.  Patricia Kennedy returns to the College tonight at 7.30pm to host a workshop for parents entitled - "Understanding Bullying".   The presentation will take place in the Canteen and provides parents with a forum for discussion around the issue.  The presentation will be very interactive, giving parents an opportunity to voice their concerns and draw on the experience of Patricia and other parents.

LCA Rang Mochta Library Trip. As part of the Social Education Module all LCA Year 1 students will be visiting Blanchardstown library this Wednesday 1st February and so will be absent from classes all morning.

 

 

 

Week Commencing January 23rd 2012

NDC Awards:  Congratulations to five of our LC1 students – Shauna Golden, Eve Farrelly, Sophie Martin, Declan King and Mark Sheridan who created their own advertising agency and opted to enter the National Dairy Council Milk It Awards.  Their hard work and enthusiasm has paid off as they have been selected to progress to the next round of the competition.  We wish them every success with their ad campaign

Starsearch: Starsearch 2012 will take place this coming Thursday and Friday, beginning at 8pm on both nights. Rehearsals will take place all day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sticks & Stones Counter-Bullying Workshops: The “Sticks & Stones” Drama Group return to the College this week to deliver Counter Bullying Workshops to all 1st year classes on Monday & Tuesday. 

“Sticks & Stones” will host a workshop for parents entitled “Understanding Bullying” on Monday 30th January at 7.30pm

LCVP: All LCVP students in Year 2 will attend two presentations today Monday 23rd January. Details as follows-

Physics Trip: LC2 Physics students will be attending attend NUI Maynooth on Thursday 19th January where they will have the opportunity to carry out a selection of experiments from the Physics syllabus

French Drama: Students of French will be attending a production in the Canteen from 1.45 to 3pm on Thursday 12th January (for LC1 & LC2 students) & from 1.45 to 3pm on Friday 13th January (for 2nd & 3rd Year students).

New Computer/Mathematics Degree: Phil Maguire from NUI Maynooth will be talking to those students from LC1 and LC2 who are interested in a new Computer/Mathematics degree course which is starting in Maynooth next September. The presentation will take place in Room 13 at 1.05 this Wednesday 11th January

On December 5th, our Transition Year students were involved in fundraising for the Central Remedial Clinic in the city centre.  We are delighted to announce that the students raised €2,057 for this worthy cause.

LCA News: Rang Goldberg will be visiting the cinema on Tuesday afternoon 13th December.

The LCA Concert takes place on Thursday afternoon 15th December commencing at 2pm. All Music classes from 1st 2nd & LC1 are attending as well as all TY students.

Rang Mochta (LCA 1) are running a 5-a-side soccer tournament as part of their Educational Task for Leisure & Recreational Programme. Ten students from Ranganna Ardagh, Broighter, Cathach & Kells will be involved on Friday 16th December from 9.40 to 11am while ten students from Ranganna Lismore, Newgrange & Tara will participate from 11 to 12.15pm. The final will take place on Monday 19th December from 1.15 to 2pm.

Guidance and Counselling Department:

  • Reminder: DATS are being held this week Monday and Tuesday 9am – 2.30pm. Block A on Monday & block B on Tuesday.
  • The Guidance and Counselling Department have organised a Careers/ CAO evening on Wednesday 7th December at 6.30pm in the college.
  • The evening will comprise of a number of presentations on a variety of career orientated disciplines. The presentations will enlighten both students and parents to opportunities that exist within the various disciplines and will allow for questions and answers.
  • Students interested in Art portfolios can attend an information session in the Art room.
  • Parents, Guardians and Students of Transition Year, 5th Year and 6th Year are encouraged to attend and will benefit from the presentations.

Geography Field Trips: Mr McCorry will be taking his LC2 Geography class on a Field Trip this Wednesday 7th December. Mr Cody & Ms Kelly’s classes will be on similar trip on Friday 9th December.

Vaccination Programme: The HSE will return to the College this Thursday, 8th December to administer the second stage of the HPV vaccination to 1st and 6th year girls.  This will take place in the Canteen. 

 

STUDENT LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME: Our Student Council will have a meeting this Tuesday, December 6th from 3.50-4.15pm in the canteen.

CSPE Action Project: Rang Corrib will be visiting the zoo on Monday 21st November and  Rang Barra on Tues 22nd November as part of their Junior Cert projects & will be absent from the College all day following tutorial.

 

L.C.V.P. NEWS: During the mid-term break, a number of our L.C.V.P. LC1 students, as part of their studies, completed a minimum of three days work experience in a suitable work environment.  During the students’ work placements, they had to complete thirteen specific learning outcomes (S.L.O.s).  We are currently receiving excellent feedback.

Week Commencing November 7th 2011

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraising: A Dublin Jersey/Colours day takes place in the College tomorrow, Tuesday November 8th & students are requested to make a donation of €2 and come to school in Dublin jersey and/or colours. Cystic Fibrosis is the chosen charity of the winning Dublin team this year and Ross McConnell and Alan Brogan will be visiting a number of classes tomorrow.

CCC Junior Mace: On Saturday next, November 12th the College Debating Society will host its annual Mace Competition for Junior speakers. Teams from a variety of schools throughout & beyond Dublin will participate in this day long event which is being convened by LC2 students, Ellen Murphy & Ellen Corby. Recently elected, Labour TD for Dublin West, Patrick Nulty has been invited to chair the Grand Final.

First Year 2012: Registration of students takes place on Wednesday November 9th from 1.40 to 3.40pm.

Third Year Parent Teacher Meetings: These take place on Tuesday 15th (Block A) & Tuesday 22nd November (Block B) from 3.45 to 6.15pm.

Career Talks: A series of talks for LC1 students continues on the following dates.

LC2 Parent Teacher Meetings: Second round of meetings takes place this Tuesday October 25th from 4.15pm to 6.15pm involving students in Ranganna Goldberg, Einstein, Knightley & Redgrave.  Classes finish for all other students at 3.30pm as per the agreement on PTMs.

Fingal Comhairle na nÓg / Youth Council 2011 AGM: A number of our Student Council members will be attending the annual Fingal Comhairle na nÓg/Youth Council 2011 AGM.  Comhairle na nÓg are local youth councils, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies.  This year’s Fingal Comhairle na nÓg / Youth Council Elections take place in the Europa Academy, in Swords on Wednesday, October 26th.  The day will last from 10am to 2pm.  Our College’s elected Student Council representatives attending are: Alicia O’Connor (LC1), Colm Neville (LC1), Joseph Gregory (LC1), Emma Delaney (TY), Steven Byrne (TY) and Nicole McAuley (TY).

Sticks & Stones Counter Bullying Workshops : The “Sticks & Stones” Drama Group returned to the College last week to deliver follow-up workshops to all 2nd year classes.  The feedback from the presenters has been very complimentary of the students and their participation. Sticks & Stones will return in January 2012 to deliver workshops with 1st year classes and parents.

Parenting Course:  A six week Parenting Course for parents of 2nd Year students will be held in the College, commencing on Monday 17th October. The course is limited to sixteen participants. Details regarding the course have been issued to 2nd Year parents/guardians.>>More

Sticks & Stones Counter Bullying Workshop:  The “Sticks & Stones” Drama Group will return to the College on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th October to deliver follow-up workshops to the 2nd year classes.

Study Skills Presentation: The Guidance Department will make this presentation to Third Year students on Tuesday 18th October. Classes in Block A from 9am to 9.40am & Classes in Block B from 9.40am to 10.20am.

Careers in Health: A group of twelve sixth year students interested in health professional careers will be attending an all day clinical seminar in St. Vincent's Hospital on Wednesday 19th October.

Trad Group: The College Traditional Music Group has been invited to perform as part of a Castleknock Hurling & Football Club fundraising Concert in aid of Dublin15 Hospice. The concert commences at 7:30pm on Thursday 20th of October. Wishing our musicians all the best on the night.

                            

English Poetry Competition: Congratulations to Katie Lambert (Rang Oscair) and Joy Clifford (Rang Coleman) who have both been successful in the 2011 National ‘Write a Poem Competition’.  Both students will travel to the Laois Education Centre this Wednesday, October 19th and will participate in a Poetry Workshop facilitated by the poet Joe Woods. 

Cambridge Testing: Ms Ryan & the EAL Department will be testing a number of students from various year groups on Friday morning in the Canteen.
