A Decade of Sporting Success at Castleknock Community College…..we bring you some of those golden moments

1996

Boys Swimming team win College's first title in the Leinster junior Medley and were Runners up in the All Ireland. Team: Mark Leddy, David Stanley, Mark Ashford and Dean Bowles.
In the West Leinster Cross Country Championships Aaine Davey won Gold.


1997


In the Leinster Track & Field Championship the Ruddock sisters, Kate and Miranda won gold in the 200m & 500m respectively. Kate was also runner up in the All Ireland 200 metres, which topped a fantastic year for the girls.

1998


The Second year Boys clinch the College's first All-Ireland Basketball Title winning the All-Ireland "B" League in Kilkenny.
The School was also represented by Eamon Prunty at the world Disabled Water Skiing Championships in Jordan. Eamon won the Gold Medal competing at Senior level.

1999.


The Girls' Swimming teams sweep the boards at All-Irelands winning two senior titles. In July The College is represented in the 52nd FISEC Games in Lisbon, Portugal. The Team won two best overall trophies for Male/Female and 15 medals. The Team were: Marina Loughney, Jenny Victory, Daragh Murray.

In athletics Miranda Ruddock won the Bronze Medal in the All-Ireland 300 metres.

2000


The New millennium sees the dawn of success for the Girls' Basketball teams. The First year girls won the All Ireland "D" League in a nail-biting final in the NBA in Tallaght.

In Cycling David Ward is crowned U14 Walker Cup Winner

2001


Once again our College Swimming teas continued to make huge waves in the schools competitions. Five swimmers travelled to FISEC games: Marina Loughney, Ciara Kealy, Dean Bowles, Kevin Stacey, Darragh Murray, Ciara, Dean and Marina set new FISEC records.

Back home at the Irish Schools' Championships the Girls' swimming teams won both Senior Relays. The team were: Aine Murray, Ciara and Marina Loughney, Ciara Kealy, Jenny Victory, Shauna O'Brien and Maria Stacey.

In canoeing, Thomas Dunphy is selected to represent Ireland in the World Championships of Kayak Rodeo in Spain.

The Second Year Girls' Basketball team win Dublin League.

Niki Kurtz Becomes World Champion in Kick Bocking.

2002

The College Basketball teams continue to excel - The First Year Boys won the Dublin Finals and hosted the All Ireland Finals in the Oblate Hall, Inchicore.

The First Year Girls' Basketball team won the Dublin Leagues.

The Girls Senior Swimming team set a new Irish Schools' Record yet again in Free Style Relay.

In Gaelic Football the first sign of great things to come area seen as the U14 girls qualify for the Leinster Championship and were runnersup in the "B" Final.

Shane O'Sullivan is crowned All Ireland Judo Champion.

2003


The U14 Boys won the College's First Gaelic Football Championship, securing the Dublin and Leinster Division "D" titles.

The Second Year Girls' Basketball Team won the Dublin League.

The cadette girls Basketball team won the Division II Dublin League.

To cap a fantastic year of success the College's First Year Boys won the All-Ireland "A" Basketball title in he NBA Tallaght in sheer style.

The College also secured its First Year Gold Medal in Judo with Emma Gill winning in the Dublin School's Championship.

2004


The U14 Boys Gaelic Football team win their second Dublin Leinster title at "B" Division.

The U14 Girls Gaelic Football team are narrowly beaten in the Leinster "A" Finals.


The First Year Girls Basketball team won the Dublin "B" League.

The Second Year Boys' Basketball team were runners-up in the Dublin League.

The Cadette Girls Basketball team were runners-up in the Dublin Finals.

Niall O'Neill was crowned the Leinster Champion in the U14 boys 1100m in the Track& Field.

Claire Doyle was runner-up in the U14 Girls West Leinster 600m, Track & Field.


2005

U16 Hurlers win the College's first title by defeating Scoil Cathriona in the Dublin Championships

Michael Daly signs professionally for Manchester City.

2006


U16 Girls Soccer team begin an amazing run that takes them to their First Leinster title when they beat Alexandra College 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out

The U18 Gaelic Team compete in the Divison A Leisnter Final against St Peter's Dunboyne.

David O'Brien is selected to play for the Republic of Ireland in the U16 European Championships

Paddy Andrews is selected to represent Ireland against Australia in the Compromise Rules Tournament.

2007

  • The Girls U16 Soccer team qualified for the U16 Leinster Soccer against Skerries Community College in February.

 

  • The boys First Year Basketball Team  were narrowly defeated in the East Schoolboys Playoffs in March.

  

  • The U13 Girls Soccer Team who were defeated  in the Leinster Quarter Final against Eureka Kells.
  • The Girls U18 Gaelic Football team were defeated  in the Leinster ‘B’ Final against Tyrellspass.

 

  • Our Girls U16 Basketball Team achieved great success by reaching the National “A” Semi-finals in Tipperary in early February only to be narrowly defeated.

2008

  • Aoife Begley Debating finalists Dearbhaile Ni Mhaoileoin and Damilola Gbajablamila
  • Leinster Junior Schools Debating finalists Jack Kiernan (Individual R-up)and Peter Murphy

 

  • Damilola Gbajablamila Toastmasters Public Speaking Winner 2008
  • Two first year students Daire Boyle and Aodhán Peelo representing Ireland at the International Competition for Young Debaters in Oxford.
